Mihal Tamir

My former student Mihal Tamir (Bezalel Academy, Jerusalem) has published her first graphic novel called in hebrew "Ha-hof ha-shaket" (The quiet beach) at Matar Publisher. Based on autobiograhic memories and family history along four generations marked by the Shoah. Mihal is also Ronny's wife and they work together in Tel Aviv. הקריקטורה של הוגה צ'בז מופיעה באתר אמריקאי של
New York Times/CWS
מנהלי האתר התאימו אותה לטעם המקובל ביבשת הגדולה
והפכו את האצבע המשולשת והמקללת לאגרוף קמוץ.
לא שהם מנסים להימנע מפגיעה בצ'בז, אלא מנסים
שלא לפגוע ברגשות הקורא הממוצע. אם בטלויזיה משמיעים
"ביפ" במקום "פאק יו", בקריקטורה עושים פעלול פוטושופ
קטן וסוגרים עניין, גם אם זה משנה משמעותית את האמירה.
זה מסוג הדברים שקריקטוריסט חייב ללמוד לחיות עמם היום.
זה קורה יום-יום אך זה לא אומר שצריך להימנע מבדיקה
יום-יומית של גבולות המותר. בדיקה זו היא חובה
My Hugo Chavez cartoon has been modified by
CWS/NYTimes website. The insulting finger has been changed
into a fist, thanks to Photoshop. The problem is that
the meaning of the cartoon is totally different.
It's like putting a"Beep!" instead of "F… you!" in radio or TV.
Today cartoonists must learn to live with that bloody PC
(Politically Correctness), but it in no way means we have
to stop provoking. At the contrary we have to check
where the red lines are every single day. It's an obligation!
